The Carriage Trade Carousel in Second Life

Quad-horse Carousel in Carriage Trade in Second Life

The Carriage Trade Carousel is unique in Second Life.  Instead of texture or prim horses, our  Jumpers and Standers are actually provided by playful quad horse avatars!

The carousel was created with original texture work and with extensive sculptification providing the stretchers and carousel poles.  The carousel is patterned from several original carousels from the Golden Age of the Carousel, in the early 20th century, with nods to such carousel styles as the Philadelphia style of Gutsva Dentzel’s Philadelphia Toboggan Company and the ‘Coney Island’ style of Charles Carmel, Marcus Charles Illions, Soloman Stein and Harry Goldstein.

Very few authentic wooden carousels from this time period are still in existence in the physical world.  The carousel horses themselves are collector’s items, garnering tens of thousands of dollars for a well-preserved specimen in its original park paint.  As a result, historic carousels are often broken apart and sold for their components rather than as an entire machine.

Our carousel is reminescent of these gorgeous machines, and features carousel music Blaze Away, courtesy of Roger Wiegland.  Mr. Wiegland graciously gave us permission to use a piece of music he recorded on his carousel organ, the Diamond Jubilee, an 89-key Gaviol steam organ.  Please see his web site here: http://www.carouselorgan.com/

The Top Row of the Carriage Trade Big Carousel includes Standers in a Range of Positions

To ride the carousel, simply select the ball or post of your choice.  Horses have poses in the posts; humans have poses in the balls and carriages.  Right click on the ball or post of your choice and select ride.  Click the carousel to start the ride!

And what is a carousel without a brass ring? Watch for your chance to capture the brass ring from the brass ring dispenser!

Hey folks! Heads up… SLB8

As you may know, we ARE going to have an exhibit at SLB8. Our theme is the Magic and Majesty of the SL Horse.

To that end, I invite all of you to submit 1-2 images you have shot of your SL horse avatar or your friends, showing the wonder that you are.  Please make sure you label the picture clearly, and ideally, spend a few minutes in your image editor and add your copyright notice along the bottom. The slide viewers are all wider than tall, so keep that in mind! I need these by the weekend! Thanks!

CT Rose Hunt – on NOW!

Rose HuntOne of the Roses You are Looking For

The Rose Hunt begins on Saturday May 29th and runs through midnight on June 21st. Hunters are seeking 20 Rose objects, each containing one or more Lifestyle, Horse or Apparel items each with a Rose theme.

The Roses are hidden throughout our estate, which includes Carriage Trade and Carriage Trade Northhampton. They maybe be hidden in shops, public areas or parks, which may include public areas of the livery. The will NOT be hidden in residents’ homes or stalls, so please do not enter the residents’ homes or stalls. Repeat: no roses are hidden in any private homes, stables or stalls.

To hunt successfully, select the Rose and ‘buy’ it for 0L. You will receive a folder cleverly named ‘Object’ in your Inventory.

While you are hunting, please behave with respect to all visitors and residents. Please not harass the staff of Carriage Trade during your hunt. We have created fabulous prize items, we know you want them, but it takes our joy out of doing the hunt if we are harassed or if you complain about the prizes. If they are not to your taste, you may always leave.

While you are in our estate, please observe the following rules: NO nudity. NO profanity. NO sexual roleplay of any kind. NO begging for sex, money, or anything else. NO age play. NO wearable horses (they make our beauties sad). NO kiddy, fantasy or anthro avatars (this means no furries, dragons, etc.) NO weapons or violence of any sort. Violators will be asked once to stop doing whatever it is that is against our rules. The second time they will be removed from the estate.

New Residents in Carriage Trade

We have new residents joining this week: Alexei, Ciel, Willow, Dreamer, Danya, Ajax, Lytta, Faris, Paladin, Fancy, Tyr, Rogue, Knight, Princess, & puppy dog Magic!  Lorelai has taken a stall over in the Pony Club stables.

Please remember what a hassle (and how it may even be a little scary for the shy)  it is to come into a new group anywhere and make it a point to go over and introduce yourself if you missed their welcome earlier.
